Roundtable: Reshaping management for the future workforce
Roundtable: Reshaping management for the future workforce

Time & Location

17 July 2024, 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Curtin Graduate School of Business, level 1/78 Murray St, Perth WA 6000, Australia

About the Event

“If you control people enough, they may begin to act as if they want to be controlled. As a self-protective strategy, they become focused outward – looking for clues about what the people in one-up positions expect of them, looking for what will keep them out of trouble” (Edward L. Deci, 1995, p. 148)

As our world becomes increasingly more volatile, organisations are forced to evolve to be nimble and resilient. This calls for organisational practices that allow employees to navigate challenges and adapt to changing priorities.

You are invited to an industry roundtable, where we will engage in comprehensive discussions on the critical management issues facing modern organisations:

  • Crisis of engagement: Employees are less engaged than they were, with consistent drops in the past 10 years around the world which impacts productivity

  • Technological advancements: Adoption AI and emerging technologies triggering a surge of precarious employment, increased work intensity and deteriorating mental health

  • Financial scandals: Trust in organisations rapidly deteriorating, causing damage to reputation and credibility

This roundtable will focus on the best ways for reshaping management practices to promote better flexibility and proactivity. It will consist of 2 roundtable discussions:

  • Part 1: Discussion of the three issues organisations are facing and a brainstorm of solutions

  • Part 2: Discussion of how we could test the solutions in organisations

Moderator: John Curtin Distinguished Professor Marylène Gagné
